While updating the WordPress plugin using FTP client I was getting the error as –
ERROR: There was an error connecting to the server, Please verify the settings are correct‘.

1. Enable the debug mode for your WordPress site –
    You can enable it from wp-config.php file. You can update the below value –
    define( ‘WP_DEBUG’, true );

2. Check the permission for plugin directory
    Please make sure you have read and write permission (777) for plugin directory.

3. FTP Setup –
    Make sure the you’ve below setup in your wp-config.php file for FTP –

   define( ‘FS_METHOD’, ‘ftpext’ );

   define( ‘FTP_BASE’, ‘/path/to/wordpress/’ );

   define( ‘FTP_CONTENT_DIR’, ‘/path/to/wordpress/wp-content/’ );

   define( ‘FTP_PLUGIN_DIR ‘, ‘/path/to/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/’ );

   define( ‘FTP_PUBKEY’, ‘/home/cPanel_username/.ssh/id_rsa.pub’ );

   define( ‘FTP_PRIKEY’, ‘/home/cPanel_username/.ssh/id_rsa’ );

   define( ‘FTP_USER’, ‘username’ );

   define( ‘FTP_PASS’, ‘password’ );

   define( ‘FTP_HOST’, ‘ftp.your_site_name’ OR ‘your hostname’);

   define( ‘FTP_SSL’, false );

   Make sure you are able to connect to your account using the FTP details in wp-config.php file.

4. SSH SFTP Updater Plugin

  You’ll need to make sure, if you’ve ‘SSH2 SFTP Updater Plugin‘ enabled then in connection information,                connection type should be SSH2.
